Abelia grandiflora – Glossy Abelia

  • Characteristics: Gracefully arching shrub displays bright glossy foliage, with bell shaped white fragrant flowers. Grows 4’-6’ tall, blooms in late spring throughout summer, considered semi-evergreen.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering
  • Plant: Use as hedging or in perennial garden

Cornus alba argento-marginata ‘Elegantissima’ – Variegated Red Twig Dogwood

  • Characteristics: Shrub with upright blood red stems, great winter interest. Gray green leaves with irregular creamy white margins. Produces white flowers that grow 6’-8’ tall.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering
  • Plant: Plant in groups as a border or in a perennial bed

Euonymous alatus ‘Compacta’ – Dwarf Burning Bush

  • Characteristics: Compact mounded form displays attractive rich green leaves spring through summer. The foliage turns vibrant red in the fall and grows 6’-8’ tall, produces small red berries.

  • Moisture: Moist, well-drained soil
  • Plant: Use as natural hedge

Forsythia intermedia ‘Lynnwood Gold’ – Forsythia

  • Characteristics: These early bloomers have showy yellow flowers. Fast growing with upright arching form. Grows 6-8′ tall.

Hydrangea anomala – Climbing Hydrangea

  • Characteristics: A vigorous, sprawling, deciduous vine that clings and climbs by aerial rootlets. Heart-shaped, serrate, lustrous, dark green leaves. Features flattened clusters of fragrant, white flowers in a lace cap configuration.
  • Light: Part shade to full shade
  • Moisture: Prefers well drained soil
  • Plant: Great by pergolas and chimneys

Hydrangea macrophylla – Hydrangea

  • Characteristics: This flowering shrub comes in a wide range of textures, colors and sizes. Foliage is dark green on long upright stems that produce continuous large mop, ball or flat head flowers. Some varieties include ‘Nikko Blue’, ‘Blue Lace Cap’ and ‘Merritt’s Supreme’.
  • Light: Full sun to full shade
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use in perennial borders, beds, and cut flowers

Hypericum perforatum – St. Johnswort

  • Characteristics: Features large, rose like 5 petaled yellow flowers from July to August, oval distinctively veined leaves are dark green. Grows 2′ tall and 2′ wide.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Prefers moist well drained soil
  • Plant: Use in beds as borders and on hillsides.

Knockout Roses

  • Characteristics: A shrub rose that grows about 3 feet tall and wide. It produces terminal clusters of single, 3-inch diameter cherry red blooms. As long as it continues to grow through the summer, it will continue to bloom.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Prefers well drained soil, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Great in rose gardens and perennial beds

Leucothoe ‘Rainbow’ – Leucothoe

  • Characteristics: Graceful evergreen shrub with striking red stems and multicolored leaves. Produces showy clusters of cascading white flowers. Grows 3’-5’ tall.
  • Light: Part shade to full shade
  • Moisture: Use as mass plantings in beds & borders
  • Plant: Great in rose gardens and perennial beds

Lonicera japonica – Japanese Honeysuckle

  • Characteristics: High climbing twiny vine up to 20′ long with smooth glossy leaves and 2-4 flowered clusters of red, yellow or white tubular blooms.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Moist, well-drained soil
  • Plant: Use on arbors and fences

Rugosa Rose

  • Characteristics: Flowers are shades of pink or white, they may be single or double. Foliage is leathery, giving a distinctive texture. Grows 4-6′ tall.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Prefers moist well drained soil
  • Plant: Use as borders for mass groupings

Skimmia japonica – Japanese Skimmia

  • Characteristics: Dense rounded dome shape, simple medium green leaves, foliage yellows with winter sun. Glossy red maroon buds open to creamy white flowers. Grows 3-4′ tall.
  • Light: Partial shade to full shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soil
  • Plant: Use as hedge or in perennial beds

Spirea bumalda – Spirea

  • Characteristics: Comes in a wide variety of sizes & colors, it is a wide compact rounded form with an abundant of flat-topped clustered flowers. Some varieties include ‘Anthony Waterer’, ‘Gold Flame’, ‘Lime Mound’, ‘Shirobana’ and ‘Little Princess’.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering
  • Plant: Use in borders and cottage gardens

Syringa patula ‘Miss Kim’ – Miss Kim Lilac

  • Characteristics: Small deciduous shrub with dark green foliage and burgundy tint in fall. Very fragrant deep purple flowers, grows 6-8′ tall.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Moist, well-drained soil
  • Plant: Use as groupings in beds

Viburnum

  • Characteristics: Broadly rounded form with dense tiered branches, displays large white or pink flowers, fruit ranges from yellow to black in the fall. Grows 6’-8’ tall. Some varieties include ‘Arrowwood’ and ‘Doublefile’.

Weigela ‘Wine and Roses’ – Weigela

  • Characteristics: Foliage is dark burgundy purple leaves that shimmer. Produces small hot pink rose colored flowers. Foliage stays dark all summer long, grows 4’-5’ tall.

  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering
  • Plant: Use in beds and borders
