Festuca glauca – Blue Fescue Grass

  • Characteristics: Grown for its clump forming narrow blue gray foliage. Grows 8”-12” tall in dense mounds, produces small plumes in summer.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Use as edging borders, mass plantings and ground cover

Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’ – Japanese Forest Grass

  • Characteristics: Fine textured bright yellow leaves with a variegated green stripe that turns red in the fall. Foliage arches towards light, makes for a graceful colorful ground cover in shady areas. Grows 18” tall.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering
  • Plant: Great for containers and edging borders

Imperata cylindrical ‘Rubra” – Japanese Blood Grass

  • Characteristics: An erect leaf blade that’s a bright green on bottom that turns to a blood red color midway up. It grows 18”-24” tall in a dense form. It produces a fuzzy plume for winter interest.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils
  • Plant: Plant in perennial borders

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracillimus’ – Maiden Grass

  • Characteristics: Delicate clumps of fine textured foliage in a rounded form. Grows 5’-8’ tall and produces plumes with reddish flowers in mid-autumn, this makes for great winter interest.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use in perennial borders, beds and as a specimen

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’ – Porcupine Grass

  • Characteristics: Horizontally banded foliage and upright habit in which the erect leaf blades resemble porcupine quills. Green leaves are variegated with yellow bands. Produces reddish plumes that turn to silver in fall. Grows 5-6′ tall.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use as a specimen or in groups and cottage gardens

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Variegatus’ – Variegated Maiden Grass

  • Characteristics: Delicate clumps of fine textured foliage in a rounded form, leaf edges are white. Grows 5’-8’ tall and produces plumes with reddish flowers in mid-autumn, this makes for great winter interest.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use in perennial borders, beds and as a specimen

Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Little Bunny’ – Miniature Fountain Grass

  • Characteristics: Broadly rounded form with dense tiered branches, displays large white or pink flowers, fruit ranges from yellow clump arching mound of flat narrow linear leaves. Grows up to 12” produces spike like plumes that are at their peak in summer. Cut back in early spring before new growth.
  • Light: Full sun to full shade
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use as mass borders and perennial beds

Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’ – Purple Fountain Grass

  • Characteristics: Produces clumps of purple maroon grass like blades. Spikes of rose red plumes last from summer to fall. Grows 2-4′ tall and to 3′ wide.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Drought tolerant, prefers normal watering
  • Plant: Use as centerpieces in pots and in beds
